Barbara Joan Ovens Ricciardi, age 87, peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior on September 20th, 2025, at Sterling Care in Belcamp, MD.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on May 31st, 1938, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late Oscar and Hannah (Fidiam) Ovens.
Barbara was the cherished mother of her four girls- Joan Ferguson (Billy) of Havre de Grace, MD, Janice Warrick (Bob) of Moosic, PA, Judy Castellano (her special Michael) of Clarks Summit, PA, and her precious daughter Jacqueline Ricciardi who passed away in 2013. She always put her girls first and loved them fiercely.
Barbara was a devoted Grandma and Nana to six grandchildren- Jason Ferguson (Elizabeth) of Bel Air, MD, Joshua Ferguson of Aberdeen, MD, Jared Ferguson of Bel Air, MD, Jacob Ferguson of Abingdon, MD, Marina Castellano of Norwich, CT, and Sailor Castellano of Tuscaloosa, AL. Barbara was a proud Great Grandmother to five great grandchildren- Tucker, Micah, Elle, Blakely, and Garrett. Her family was the light of her life.
Barbara was the youngest of seven children and was preceded in death by her sisters, Florence Healey and Arlene Bell, and brothers, Carl, Bobby, Hank, and Kenny.
After getting married she moved to Bridgeport, CT, and then back to Scranton, PA for many years. She later moved to Aberdeen, MD and then to Havre de Grace, MD. She was a waitress for many years until retirement.
Over the years Barbara attended Mountain Christian Church and was a long-time member of Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church in Scranton, PA. She was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Barbara will be remembered for her deep devotion to her children, family, and friends. She found great joy in simple pleasures- playing bingo, making ceramics, traveling, family vacations, and visiting back home to Scranton.
She loved animals, especially her loyal German Shepherd Shelby. She loved feeding birds and squirrels. She was known as quite the character; sassy, sweet, full of life, and funny. She will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Humane Society of Harford County.
A graveside service at Kizer Cemetery, Mt. Cobb, PA is planned for October 2025.
A special thank you to Isaac, Princess, “Little One” (Alyssa), Cierra, Odette, Miranda, Shaye, Washington, K, Juliana, and Kenny for taking care of her so lovingly.
We will cherish our countless precious memories until we see her again. Her daughters will miss her like crazy.
