Bel Air

Barbara (Bobbie) Pons Palmer, the beloved wife of W. Stewart (Stu) Palmer, Jr. and a lifelong resident of Harford County, passed away on September 21st with her husband by her side.

The daughter of Colonel Adolphe A. Pons, Jr. and Katharine Kunkel Pons, Bobbie was born in Baltimore, MD. She attended St. Margaret School in Bel Air, Eden Hall Convent of the Sacred Heart in Torresdale, Pennsylvania, and Towson State College. She was an employee of Harford County Public Schools, working as a Media Specialist for most of her career.

An avid traveler, Bobbie cruised the world with her cherished husband Stu, enjoying many amazing adventures in more than 25 countries. She loved holiday celebrations, decorating with an amazing flair, family gatherings, and gardening. She had a green thumb and loved to have plants growing in every room in the house; her gardens were beautiful.  A talented seamstress, Bobbie made her daughter’s wedding dresses as well as many dresses for her granddaughters, especially for special occasions and holidays. A lifelong learner, she had a voracious love of books and reading, instilling that love in both her children and grandchildren. Her amazing sense of humor was famous among her family and friends. Her extended family was incredibly important to her; she loved growing up in Harford County and having so many Pons and Kunkel relatives nearby.

She was a magical storyteller, often telling stories of growing up in Bel Air in a large family, her love of horses, playing ice hockey on Bynum Run Pond with her father, brothers, and cousins and visiting her grandparents at their family homes Country Life Farm and Findowrey.

Bobbie is survived by the love of her life, her husband Stu, and children Gray (Laura) Gold of Baltimore, MD, Cindy (Lou) Etgen of Arnold, MD, Dodie (Jim) Sanders of Savannah, GA, Debbie (Jim) Johnson of Centreville, MD, and Tim (Yvonne) Palmer of Havre de Grace, MD and grandchildren Amanda (Thomas) McCausland, Sarah (Anthony) Bell, Garth (Diana) Grove, Katharine (Paul) Tomiczek, Jimmy Johnson, Sam Johnson, Michael Palmer, Angelina Palmer, Jacob Smith, and Mason Smith. She is also survived by great grandchildren Arianna, Jason, Destiny, Rozi, Jasmine, Rainy, Hoban, and Wade. Her siblings include Addie (Barb) Pons, Gerry (Cory) Pons, Dodie Scullin, Rick (Denise) Pons and she is survived by many Pons and Kunkel cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions to be made to the Harford County Education Foundation specifically for the Harford Reads Program. https://harfordeducation.org/programs/books-hand/

A celebration of life is being planned.
