Amos O’Neill Harris, age 81, of Aberdeen, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Born in Ewing Virginia, he was the son of the late Beryl Jones Harris and Lydia Ann (Ayers) Harris. He was the devoted husband of the late Brenda Jane Harris, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
A proud U.S. Army Veteran, Amos lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love. He was a hardworking man who began his career at the Beta Shoe Company, later became the owner and operator of his own trucking company, and eventually retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground after more than 30 years of faithful employment. Alongside his professional achievements, Amos and Brenda opened their hearts and home to others, serving as therapeutic foster parents for over 20 years and fostering several children during that time.
Amos was a man who found joy in the simple things—he loved feeding the birds and squirrels, doing yardwork, and listening to country music. He was deeply devoted to caring for his wife and his beloved furry companion, Tiger. Known for his friendly and generous spirit, Amos was a dedicated husband, a loving father, a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, and a friend to everyone he met.
He is survived by his children, Michael Harris and his fiancée Melissa, Lena Mills and her husband Douglas, and William Harris and his wife Teresa. He was a proud grandfather to Jessica Crawford, Matthew Harris and his fiancée Melody, Julia Harris, Jared Harris, Kirsten Harris, Riley O’Neill Harris, Daniel Wyatt Creek and his fiancée Jessica, and Lauren Creek. He also leaves behind his treasured great-grandchildren: Carter Harris, Ariella Creek, and Ricky Arnold.
Amos is also survived by his sister, Julianna Webb; nieces Michelle Webb Huddle and Cyndi McClancy; and many extended family members and friends like Olivia Siryon, Susan Stershic, Linda Cerny, Bella Baugher, and Melissa DeSouza who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Brenda Harris; his parents, Beryl and Lydia Harris; his niece, Patricia Webb; and other loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Amos’s memory to Gilchrist Music Therapy by selecting “Music Therapy” or to the Elizabeth K. Andrews Charity Fund in support of Alzheimer’s and Dementia research
Amos O’Neill Harris will be remembered for his strength, compassion, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
