Pylesville

Amedea “Emery” Coccia, age 76, of Pylesville, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Frank Joseph Coccia and Laura Maria (Kuchling) Coccia and the beloved husband of Amelia Coccia.

He was deeply proud of his Highlandtown roots and lived a life centered around family, friends, community, and sports. He valued his Italian heritage and faithfully carried on the traditions that meant so much to him and his family. A proud Army veteran, he served his country with honor and shared his love of music as a singer in the Army Band.

From a young age, Emery played, coached, and refereed soccer, and later went on to become an announcer for the Wilmington University Wildcats. He was inducted into the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame as part of Patterson High School’s 1966 Men’s soccer team, which achieved remarkable success. A dedicated Ravens and Orioles fan, he loved cheering on his teams and sharing his passion for sports with those around him.

Emery dedicated more than five decades to the wine and spirits industry, shaping a career marked by hard work, integrity, and a deep respect for people. Guided by several important influences throughout his life, he grew into a trusted leader and entrepreneur. He was a driving force in the Mid-Atlantic market and built his reputation not only on his professional expertise but also on the way he treated people. He valued his retailers as partners, always showing respect and support, and in doing so he forged lifelong friendships.

Above all, Emery cherished time with his family and friends. He loved music and was never shy about breaking into song, bringing joy and laughter wherever he went. At the heart of it all was his lifelong love affair with his wife, Mellie. Together they shared a bond filled with laughter, devotion, and an unshakable partnership that was the centerpiece of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia Coccia; his daughters, Melissa (Louis) Fitch, Nicole (Patrick) Crone, and Christina (Robert) DeVaughn; his grandchildren, Alicia (Eric) Vanderwiele, Elizabeth (Brandon) Wilhelm, Anthony Fitch, Samantha (Jacob) Preston, Nicholas (Stephanie) Crone, Theodore DeVaughn, Everett DeVaughn and Maxwell DeVaughn; his great-grandchildren, Austin & Giuliana Fitch-Roemer, Pauline Crone and Issac Preston and his brother, Frank Coccia; and his sister, Helen Myrick.
