ALFONSO JOSEPH DeLEONARDIS, age 87, of Bel Air, MD, died on March 26, 2008. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Marco and Concetta Maria DeLeonardis. A graduate of Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia, he went on to study at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, and then earned a Bachelors degree in Engineering at the John Hopkins University, and a Masters degree in Engineering from the Chrysler Institute of Engineering. He was married in Philadelphia 53 years ago and then moved to Frederick, MD before settling in Bel Air. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Alaska on Amchitka during WWII. He was a member of the Elkton VFW Post # 8175 and the Knights of Columbus in Frederick, MD. He was also a member and lector at St. Johns Church in Frederick and at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Bel Air. He was a lifetime Philly's fan but followed the Orioles and coached the Reisterstown Baseball Travel team. He was a kind, loving, and wise grandfather who enjoyed traveling and opera music.
Mr. DeLeonardis is survived by his wife, Elsie Altieri DeLeonardis of Bel Air, MD; three children, Gina DeLeonardis and her husband, Frank Satterfield, of Baltimore, MD, Mark DeLeonardis of Berlin, NJ, and Lisa DeLeonardis of Columbia, MD; a sister, Josephine DeLeonardis of Philadelphia, PA; four grandchildren, Nick DeLeonardis of Hoboken, NJ, Alia Satterfield of Baltimore, MD, Issie Resti and Mindy Satterfield both of Bethesda, MD; and one great-granddaughter, Micah Grace Resti of Bethesda, MD. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Nicholas and Michael DeLeonardis; and two sisters, Frances Lattanzio and Maria Sardella.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
