Alex Larry Bondarenko, age 76, of White Hall, Maryland, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Geffin Bondarenko and Tekla (Nikitin) Long.
Alex was the devoted husband of the late Marlane Evelyn (Donnelly) Bondarenko. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later retired in 1996 after 30 years of dedicated service with General Motors.
In addition to his full-time career, Alex had a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He operated his own construction business installing windows and took great pride in building his family home.
In his later years, Alex faced significant health challenges following multiple back surgeries that affected much of the past 15 years of his life. Even so, he remained strong-willed, independent, and determined to do things his own way.
Alex was a longtime member of the NRA and the Hopewell Fish & Game Association. He had a deep love for the outdoors and was especially passionate about deer hunting, fishing, and deep-sea fishing trips he truly enjoyed. He was happiest outdoors, especially during hunting season or on the water. These were more than hobbies—they were a part of who he was.
He is survived by his children, Nicholas Bondarenko and Kathleen (Joshua) Mauler; his granddaughter, Devon Hammen-Bondarenko ; Nicholas’s companion, Francine Hammen; and his brothers, Walter Bondarenko and Michael (Terry) Bondarenko.
Alex’s services will be professionally recorded and made available as a memorial video after editing is complete. Please visit the obituary page for updates, tributes, and to view the video when it is posted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gilchrist Hospice.
