Albert C. Broccolo and Charlene M. Broccolo
Albert Christopher Broccolo, age 64, and his beloved wife, Charlene Mary Broccolo (née Divel), age 62, passed together on Friday, November 7, 2025.
Together, Al and Char built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, family, and friendship. They were devoted parents to their children, Lauren (Elizabeth) Broccolo and Joseph (Casey) Broccolo, and proud grandparents—known affectionately as “Poppy” and “Mammie”—to Hayes, Alex, Addie, and Millie.
Albert “Al” Broccolo was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Joseph and Mary (Fitzpatrick) Broccolo. He was the beloved neighborhood mailman whom the community depended on, always ensuring their mail arrived on time. He never walked his route without a treat in his pocket for the pets he adored. Al retired as a Letter Carrier from USPS in 2020 after 30 years of dedicated service.
He loved cooking out, trying new recipes, golfing, and watching local sports—including the Ravens, Orioles, and other Maryland teams. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and making people laugh. Al welcomed everyone into his home with warmth, kindness, and an easygoing spirit. He loved traveling and making memories with Charlene, and the two shared a deep love of music and attending concerts together. He was cherished by countless friends, neighbors, and loved ones.
Charlene “Char” Broccolo was born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late George Lemuel Divel Sr. and Alvina Kathryn (Dunn) Divel, and later lovingly embraced by the late Theodore “Greg” Norris. Charlene began working at Kennedy Krieger on May 10, 1979, at just 16 years old, and devoted over 45 years to the organization. Her exceptional dedication earned her the George H. Thomas Extraordinary Service Award.
Charlene held many roles in Finance before becoming the Director of Business Operations for Kennedy Krieger’s Clinical and Community Programs. In 2022, she stepped back to spend more time with her family, transitioning into her role as Manager of Business Operations for the same programs.
She loved to dance, travel, go on cruises, relax at the beach, and she could often be found “up the road” at the casino. She had a deep love for Christmas and was an enthusiastic fan of Hallmark movies. Above all, her greatest joy was her grandchildren and her family.
Together, Al and Char shared a life rich in music, travel, friendship, and love. Their home was always full of laughter, open doors, and open hearts.
They are survived by their loving children and grandchildren; Al’s sister, Maria Sell (Michael); and Char’s siblings, George (Jean) Divel Jr., William (Janet) Divel, Darlene Woodward, Kathleen (Robert) Meadows, Marlene Shull, and Pauline (Joseph) Gugliotta. They are also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his sisters, Phyllis Prochazka and Shirley Hott; and his brother-in-law, James Prochazka.
