Won Deok Kim

Won Deok Kim, age 76, of Abingdon, Maryland (formally of Baltimore, Maryland) passed away peacefully on April 21, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. Originally from South Korea, he was the son of Deuk-Chung Kim and Chae-Ang Moon. He was a faithful husband of Young Kim for 45 years. He was a Jehovah's Witness and belonged to the Lutherville Korean Congregation.

Won was born as the youngest of 8 siblings in Korea, then-colonized by the Japanese Imperial Army, during the last years of World War II in Pyeong-An Region. He grew up in the war-ravaged Korea and started supporting his entire family at the age of 8. He was a devout Christian, a self-made man, and a beloved family man.  He immigrated to the United State with his wife and two children in 1997 and continued his devotion in supporting his family with all his might until his last days despite his decades-long battle against his illness.  Won was a God-fearing and ever-loving husband, a father, a grandfather, and a friend to many he left behind. He will be remembered for his love for his family, fishing, and his unfailing faith for God’s promise that “he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor cry nor pain be anymore.” (Revelation 21:4).

Won is survived by his wife, Young Kim; son, Kon Kim and his wife Insoo Kim; daughter, Gi Kim; three grandchildren, Colin Kim, Emma Kim, and Ethan Kim.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother; and six brothers and sisters.
