Virginia "Chris" Cornes

Virginia "Chris" Cornes, age 91, of Joppa, Maryland passed away on June 21, 2022, at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson, Maryland. Born in Aberdeen, Maryland, she was the daughter of Joseph and Christine (Blaha) Cerny and wife of the late Calvin Cornes. She was a force of nature! Chris worked as a caretaker/custodial worker for the Maryland Military Department until 2019 when she retired with a total of 32 years of State service at the age of 88. She was an active member of the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and the Auxiliary for 51 years. Chris loved going to Bingo, eating crabs, bowling, and tending to her many flower gardens.    

Chris is survived by her daughter, Susan Derlunas; great-granddaughters, Jade Croissant, and Kylee Conner; great-grandson, Christopher Blake-Griggs; and sons-in-law, Paul Erhard, and Herman Hagan. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Candy Erhard and grandson, Chris Griggs.
