Veronica Elizabeth Brown

November 4, 1948 — February 11, 2015

Veronica Elizabeth Brown, 66, of Street, MD, passed away on February 11, 2015 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Simpson Hurley and Dorothy Elizabeth Jorah Hurley. She worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground from June 2, 1980 until her retirement on August 30, 2012, and in the early 1990's she worked with the APG Players. She was the recipient of the Aberdeen Proving Ground Civilian Volunteer of the Year Award. During her lifetime, Ms. Brown served her community in various ways. She served as the American Red Cross point of contact for Harford County's EOC during the September 11th tragedy and was a recipient of the Harford County Red Cross Volunteer of the Year Award, the Central Maryland Red Cross Volunteer of the Month Award, and the Baltimore Executive Award for Volunteer Service. She was one of a few volunteers who were trained by Homeland Security to serve in county, state and national-level EOC's. She served as the charter president for the local non-profit agency, Federally Employed Women's Maryland Tri County Chapter and is the namesake of their annual chapter award, the Veronica E. Brown Award. She was a member of the Susquehanna Toast Masters and she and her son, Corey, trained together to become Weather Watchers for the National Weather Service.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her son, Corey S. Brown of Street; brother, Milton S. Hurley of Monroe, MI; and sister, Verna Jean Hurley of Street. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Barbara A. Moschina and Caroline L. Malfitano.

There will be a private interment of cremated remains in the Spring.
