Troy Claiborne

January 25, 1961 — January 18, 2015

Claiborne, Troy SSG (Ret.), 53, of Bel Air, MD passed away on January 18, 2015 at his home. Born in East Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late John Henry Claiborne and Agnes Bradby Harris Sexton. He served for 23 in the United States Army as a Medical NCO. Throughout his career he served in Germany, Korea and multiple stateside units . Troy also deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received many medals for his valor service, to include the Meritorious Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Korea Defense Service Medal. Following his retirement, he continued his national service with the Veteran's Administration. Known as the "Mayor" of the Emerald Hills Community, he brought joy to people around him through his story telling, humor, listening ear and genuine care for others.

Troy is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jocelyn F. Claiborne; sons, Shakil Dinkins of East Orange, NJ, Jeremiah Claiborne of Victorville, CA, Airman 1st Class Troy Jaron Claiborne and wife, Natalie, stationed in Japan and Jordan L.A. Claiborne of Bel Air, MD; brothers, John E. Claiborne and wife, Matricia, of North Carolina, Terry A. Claiborne and spouse, Christa, of Rosedale, MD, Ronald Sexton of East Orange, NJ; sisters, Vanessa Walker and Sheronne Sexton both of Smithfield, VA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Lamont Claiborne.

A repass will be held at the Emerald Hills Community Center, located at 1444 Knollcrest Drive, Bel Air, MD 21015 directly following the service from 3-6 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those who desire may make a donation to an education fund that will support Troy's dream to provide higher education to his children. Donations made via a check should be made payable to Jocelyn Claiborne, including Claiborne Education Fund on the memo line. Additionally, donations can be made via a website established on his behalf (http://www.gofundme.com/claiborneedu).
