Thomas Milton

December 6, 1944 — October 4, 2021

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-18

On Monday, October 4, 2021, in the peaceful hours of a new day, Thomas Milton was elevated to a new status, left his earthly presence, and took flight to his spiritual existence and life everlasting.

Thomas Milton, son of the late Marvin Junior Middleton and Geneva Campbell Middleton was born December 6, 1945, in Burgess, Virginia. Thomas was the sixth of eight children.

At an early age, Thomas joined First Baptist Church in Heathsville, Virginia. He attended the public schools of Northumberland County, Virginia. Thomas had a long career in construction and mechanic services. He was a mechanic, poured asphalt, drove a dump truck among others. As a young man he worked for Sylvia Motor Company. He was employed for over 20 years with Patent Scaffolding and worked at the American Ice Company in Baltimore City.

In 1970, he married Connie Wood. Although the marriage ended in divorce, they maintained a family relationship. On October 18, 1980, Thomas was united in holy matrimony to Linda A. Bess. They enjoyed over 40 years together, living for most of that time in Abingdon, Maryland. They liked to travel, visit with family and friends, and try out different restaurants.

Thomas enjoyed hiking with his daughter Tasha, nephew Kirk, and niece Kisha. Thomas and the children on one occasion traveled so far that a passerby saw them struggling and brought them home; they were glad. Thomas also enjoyed talking with the children and he was always there when they needed his help or just needed advice. Thomas was an excellent mechanic and enjoyed working on cars and going to the racetrack in his early years. Thomas was a caring and supportive member of the family. He was always willing to help anyone with any task they were undertaking, be they family, friend, or stranger. Thomas enjoyed spending his day watching his soap operas while relaxing and eating popcorn. His favorite task was the time he spent riding his lawn mower and cutting the grass on the two acres of land he shared with Linda. During the last three years of his life Thomas was faced with numerous health challenges, however that never stopped him from doing all that he could do.

Preceding him in death were his sons Thomas K. Milton and Wayne Betts; brothers Frank Milton, Clarence Milton, William Otis Milton, Charles Milton, McArthur Milton, William McKenley Jones; sister-in-law Veronica Dixon.

Thomas leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Linda; his loving daughter Tasha Milton; sons Marvin Carter and Thomas Betts; grandsons Torrey Hill, Kamari Hill, Tyrell Martin, Marvin Carter, Jermaine Carter, Jamari Carter; granddaughters Paeton Hill, Olivia Carter, Amber Betts, Nina Carter; great-granddaughters, Trenity Bynum and Marielle Zy’Aire Carter; sisters Sylvia Carter and Mavis Best; sister-in-laws Paula Fleet, Machele Bess, Eleanora Johnson, and Sharon Bess; brother-in-law Osborne Dixon; nephews Kirk Fleet Jr. (Latisha), Terrell Milton, William Jones, and Thomas Jones; nieces Kisha Fleet, Carol Croxton (Brandon), Nikita Artis (Jason), Jennifer Ashley, Victoria Milton, and Tena Holmes; aunts Barbara Gordon and Doris Bromley; special family friends Tiffany Mitchel, Larry McBride and a host of other relatives and friends.
