Shirley Zane Jewell

Shirley Zane Jewell, age 81, long time resident of Joppatowne, MD passed away on August 1, 2018 at her home in McGaheysville, VA. Born in Jewell Ridge, VA, she was the daughter of Thomas Albert and Mary Elizabeth (Young) Jewell and wife of the late Milbren E. White and R. Douglas Mather. She was the youngest of nine girls with a younger brother, Raymond. Miss Jewell was very active in politics, bridge clubs, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority . She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Bel Air, MD where she enjoyed Bible study and supported many charities. She loved to read the Bible and her favorite hobby was to copy scripture and prayers into her many journals. She worked as a Medicare accountant with Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Towson, and as a realtor with Grempler in Harford County.

Miss Jewell is survived by a son, Larry E. White and wife Dolly, of Parma, OH, Larry’s children, Aubrey, Kimberly, Caleb, David, Hannah, and Ginny; her daughter Patricia S. Jones, and husband Hugh, of McGaheysville, VA, Patricia’s children, Carrie Anne, Joseph Matthew and Kaitlyn Victoria; two surviving sisters, Frances Davis and Dorothy Patrick, both of VA. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
