Shirley Irene Laird

May 1, 1939 — February 15, 2021

Shirley Irene Laird, age 81, of Street, Maryland passed away on February 15, 2021 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Nebo, Virginia, she was the daughter of Robert and Annie (Tibbs) Gullion and wife of the late Charles “Famous” Laird Jr.

Shirley started her career in the 1960s working at the BATA Shoe Company. Known for her sweet personality and wonderful smile, she chose the career of a cashier with ACME grocery stores and after 30 years of service at their Aberdeen and Rising Sun locations retired in 1999.

Shirley enjoyed traveling to see the world with family and friends and loved the birds she kept fed in her backyard through her later years. Shirley often referred to her daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughters as "her world.” She was a member of Emory United Methodist Church, and an active member of the Women's Group there. A member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she as well enjoyed spending time with friends.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann (Ken) Lentz; granddaughter, Kristle (Paul) Fullerton; great-granddaughters, Karley Ann and Kelsey Jean Fullerton; brother, Earl Gullion; sisters, Anna Mae Parks and Liz Palumbo, and many loving nieces and nephews including Pastor James Parks who will officiate her service.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Delmar Robert Gullion, Joyce Louise Hall, Emory Gullion, Dorothy Horine, Edna Dye, William Gullion, Sr., Ellis Gullion, and Ruthie Gullion.
