Ronald James Coster

On September 28, 2018, our blessed father, Ronald James Coster, entered into the welcoming arms of his Heavenly Father. He lived his life as a Child of God, which was exemplified through his selflessness and ministry to others. His contagious laugh and signature bear hugs will forever be in our hearts. Ron was born July 9, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Frances and Lingard Coster. He was active in Boy Scouts and an expert in troublemaking. Ron knew as early as tenth grade that he wanted to join the military. Upon high school graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Ron’s specialty was that of a reconnaissance sniper. During his two tours in Vietnam, Ron received numerous medals and awards. Some of these included: the title of E-6 Staff Sergeant, a Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnamese Service with 3 stars, award for National Defense, Good Conduct and Expeditionary Service. The medal he was most proud of was his Purple Heart, which he received June 2, 1966, after being wounded in combat with communist insurgent forces at Cam Lo, in the Republic of South Vietnam. Ron was the primary sniper and team leader. Ron was also an Embassy Guard in Saudi Arabia and the Ivory Coast. After being honorably discharged June 18, 1970, Ron became a certified diver for a commercial seafood company. He later attended Johns Hopkins University to earn a degree as a certified Physician’s Assistant, which he held until his retirement in 2001. In October 1979, Ron and Judy Coster were united in marriage. To that union were born Kristen Nicole (1980), Kari Lynn (Matt) (1981), and Ronald Jacob (1983). Ron was preceded in death by his father, Lingard Coster and his mother, Frances Coster (Vanik). He is survived by loving brothers Lingard (Shirley) Coster, Gary (Sharon) Coster, loving nephews Christopher (Terri) Coster, Dennis (Gabriella) Coster, adoring niece Sherry Kimball. Beloved great nephews Raymond and Zachary Kimball, and Wyatt Coster, precious great nieces Megan and Enya Coster, cherished grandsons Ryan, Nick, and Lucas Stewart, as well as many loving cousins and friends.
