Robert Bruce Turner

Robert Bruce Turner, age 90, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on May 19, 2014 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. Born in Baltimore on January 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Arthur Wilson and Anna Haile Turner and was the husband of the late Frances O. Turner.

He is survived by his son James Douglas Turner of Churchville; a brother, James Wilson Turner of Sierra Vista, AZ; dear friend, Virginia K. Vencill; and his adopted family, the Vencill's. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his son, Mark Edward Turner.

Mr. Turner volunteered for the draft in WWII and was inducted into the Army in February of 1943. He was assigned to the Signal Corps, but shortly thereafter transferred to the Aviation Cadet Program of the Army Air Corps and began pilot training. After graduation in single engine, he completed instructor pilot schooling and twin engine training and later flew bombing missions over Germany as a B-17 pilot in the 8th Air Force. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked at, and was retired from, the Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed making furniture.
