Patricia A. Vela

Patricia A. Vela, 78, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on April 7, 2015 at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Alma Robinson Cooney and wife, for 39 years, of the late Dr. Cristobal Vela. Early in her career, she was employed by Maryland General Hospital as a nurse and later assisted her husband in starting his practice. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed nature, animals, gardening and crossword puzzles. She also loved her Orioles.

Mrs. Vela is survived by her sons, Mark A. Vela and wife, Frances, of Elkton and Gary A. Vela M.D. of Ellicott City; daughter, Christine E. Gilbert and husband, James E., of Elkton; brother, John R. Cooney and wife, Sharon, of Bel Air; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were private.
