Norman "Skip" Kenneth Moulsdale

December 24, 1939 — October 20, 2018

On Saturday, October 20, 2018, Norman Kenneth “Skip” Moulsdale, loving husband and father of three sons, and grandfather of seven, passed away at his home in Aberdeen at the age of 78.

Skip was born on December 24, 1939, in Abingdon, MD to Walter Norman Leigh and Della Mae (Blevins) Moulsdale. He married Donarae Marie Bowser on July 23, 1961. Together, they had three sons. Skip and Dona enjoyed dancing, playing golf, and vacationing in Florida, but most of all enjoyed spending time with their sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren.

In 1956, at the age of 16, Skip began working for the A&P grocery store, and also began a lifelong commitment to volunteer public service when he joined the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company. After graduating from Bel Air High School in 1957, he joined the Maryland National Guard, where he served until 1964, while concurrently taking business administration classes at Harford Junior College. At that time, Skip was also as active member of the Cokesbury Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as Methodist Youth Fellowship Councilor and Lay Leader.

During his late twenties and early thirties, Skip was active in the Aberdeen Jaycees and served as Treasurer, External Vice President, and President. In 1974, he joined the Rotary Club of Aberdeen where he later became President and organized an annual golf tournament to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Harford County. Skip received two Paul Harris Fellow awards from his Rotary Club in recognition of his years of service to the community, and received a Partnership Award from the Harford County Chamber of Commerce, where he was an active member of the legislative committee.

Skip also served as a member of the board of directors for many organizations, including The Boys and Girls Club of Harford County and The John Carroll Home-School Association, and served as a director and Treasurer of the Bush River Yacht Club Holding Company for thirty years. He also volunteered as a consultant to the Junior Achievement program at Aberdeen High School, served as Harford County business chairman for the American Cancer Society, and in 1999 was named by the Harford County Executive as one of Harford’s Most Beautiful People.

Skip worked for the A&P grocery store until 1964, when his career in banking began. He started as a teller for the Aberdeen branch of the Equitable Bank and Trust Company, and soon worked his way up through the ranks, working as branch manager, regional manager and commercial lender for Equitable, and later as a commercial lender for First National Bank, and also for Harford Bank until his retirement in 2010. For a time, Skip also owned his own commercial loan brokerage firm, known as D&S Enterprises. He also sold commercial real estate for Charles V. Spalding Real Estate.

In addition to his public service, Skip was known for his love of sports, the water, boating, warm weather, and travel, especially to Florida. Together with Dona, Skip also travelled to Aruba, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, England, Ghana, Scotland, Spain and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Most of all, Skip will be remembered for his sense of humor, warmth, kindness, sincerity and generosity.

Skip was preceded in death by his father, Norman, and his mother, Mae. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donarae; his three children, Gary Moulsdale (and his wife Shelly), Keith Moulsdale (and his wife Katherine Bain) and Chris Moulsdale (and his wife Caroline); his grandchildren, Shayne, Bailey, Zack, Megan, Ella, Tristan and Isabelle; his brother, Bob (and his wife Mary); and several cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Skip’s memory would be appreciated to the Children’s Tumor Foundation, 120 Wall Street, 16th floor, New York, NY 10005-3904 or the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties, 15 S. Parke Street, Aberdeen, MD 21001.
