Michael Allan Thurfield

Michael Allan Thurfield, age 34, of Joppa, MD passed away on April 17, 2015 at his home. Born in Baltimore, he is the son of Richard Edward Thurfield Sr. of Abingdon and Robbin Ann Hanna Walker-Platzke of Columbia. Michael was a graduate of Joppatowne High School, Cecil Community College and was also 10 year member of Joppa Magnolia Fire Company, where he was a paramedic.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Richard E. Thurfield Jr. of White Marsh; sister, April N. Frankenberger of Abingdon; step mother, Barbara S. Thurfield; step father, Michael E. Platzke; nieces and a nephew.

In his life, Michael was a kind and generous soul who went out of his way to help others. Through the whole of his life, his thoughts were always of those around him, and not for himself. In his free time, Michael enjoyed spending time with friends and his dogs, especially his beloved German Shepherd Brinks. It was Michael's wish that he not be mourned by those that love him, but rather that his life be celebrated.

Michael bravely battled lymphoma, and left no stone unturned in terms of treatment. His courage in the face of such an aggressive disease was an inspiration to everyone he encountered. However Michael's fight against cancer was not to be won and his final moments were spent surrounded by family and friends and he passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord.

Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Michael Reid, Stephen Neal, Gary Rains, Cesar Jauregui, Robert Kovalchek, Robert McCann, Jon Palmbak, Richard Thurfield Jr., Griffin Thurfield and Keith Brown Jr.
