Mary Loretto Kurtz

February 2, 1933 — December 6, 2021

Mary Loretto Kurtz, age 88, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away peacefully on December 6, 2021 at her home. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Loretto was the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret (Unkelbach) Evans.

She graduated from The Catholic High School of Baltimore and earned her Associates Degree in Applied Business from Miami University of Ohio in August 1986.  While studying for her degree, she worked full time in the finance industry for several Ohio companies. Upon returning to Maryland, Loretto worked as a bookkeeper for Eastern Truck and Trailer and for Red Brick Station where she was admired for her attention to detail.  She eventually retired at the age of 83.

Loretto was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Isaac Jogues, a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and a volunteer at Perry Hall Elementary School where she helped children learn to read. Loretto loved to sew, crochet, do counted cross stitch, work crossword puzzles, read and play Solitaire.  She was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan and always wore one of her Ravens t-shirts on game day.

Loretto is survived by her husband, Donald Kurtz; sons, James (Helen) Kurtz and Gary (MaryJo) Kurtz; daughters, Donna Kurtz and Diane (Tim) McClellan; grandchildren, David Lawrence (Alison) Kurtz, Caroline Ann Kurtz, Samuel Joseph Kurtz, Joseph Matthew Kurtz, Madison Anne McClellan and Kendall Nicole McClellan; and great grandchildren, Zoey Ann Kurtz and Ava Riley Kurtz.

In addition to her parents, Loretto was preceded in death by her siblings, Francis Carroll Evans, Anna Cecilia (Evans) LaPaglia and Ellen Patricia (Evans) Miller.

The family would like to give special thanks to Debbie Heaps and Lisa Scowden for their help over the past several months in caring for their Aunt Loretto.
