Mary Ellen Dumps

Mary Ellen Shadell Dumps, age 85, of Abingdon, Maryland passed away on October 14, 2022 at home in Abingdon, Maryland. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of James and Kathryn (Dersam) Shadell and wife of the late William F. Dumps. She belonged to both St. Margaret Catholic Church of Bel Air, MD and St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church of Abingdon, MD.

Mary counseled individuals with disabilities at the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation in Philadelphia, PA. She provided job placement services and counseling for veterans with mental health and addiction disabilities at the Baltimore VA Medical Center of Maryland.

After retirement, she did volunteer work at both churches. Everyone knew Mary as a kind and compassionate woman, who was always dedicated to her work. She cherished her family and was there for anyone in need. She was sweet, funny, and had a great sense of humor. Mary had an undeniable love of the church and the priesthood.

Mary is survived by her three sisters, Sister Kathleen Shadell OSF, Alice Shadell, and Barbara Shadell; sister-in-law, Alma Dumps; two nephews, Robert (Jessica) Foster, and Dr. Michael Foster; niece, Kristen (Ethan) Markowitz; two great-nephews, Gabriel Markowitz, and Noah Markowitz; and many other loving family members.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eileen Foster.
