Martin "Pat" Ferris

October 11, 1925 — November 7, 2021

Martin "Pat" Ferris, age 96, of Ocean Pines, Maryland passed away on November 7, 2021 at Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Martin and Caroline (Schilp) Ferris and husband of the late Veronica Ferris. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and fought as an artillery noncommissioned officer in the Battle of Okinawa.  A post-war graduate of University of Maryland Law School,  he worked as an attorney since the early 1950's in Baltimore City for several years. He was an accomplished criminal attorney, including as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and later worked in Washington D.C. as an Aide to Maryland Senator J. Glenn Beall, Jr.  He subsequently worked for the Maryland State Government, first, with the Environmental Protection Agency and, finally, as an unemployment claims magistrate in the state’s Department of Labor. Pat was a natural athlete who played football, basketball and soccer in high school and basketball in college; he loved tennis and played until he was 90 1/2 years old with his buddies and loved living on the water in Ocean Pines.  He was an avid painter, enjoyed writing poetry, scotch, and cakes and pies - especially blueberry pies. He loved movies and musicals vowing that "The Godfather" was the best movie ever made


 


Martin is survived by his sons, Martin A. Ferris, IV (Tere), Timothy B. Ferris (Susan) and Daniel J. Ferris (Lori); daughters, Kathleen S. Maynard, Wendy A. Huber (John), Lynn A. Kim (James) and Kelly A. Marks (Steven); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.   


 


In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy Thomas and Joan Ferris.
