Kitora Ann Bartley

January 3, 1945 — September 8, 2007

On Saturday, September 8, 2007, Kitora Ann Bartley of Bel Air, MD died peacefully in her sleep at home after a 7 year battle with Lymphoma. Kitty was born Kitora Ann Flint in Austin, TX, and raised in Weston, MA, a small town west of Boston. She was a wife, mother, and Vice President of Water Chemical Service, Inc. of Aberdeen, Maryland. She leaves her husband of 41 years, Terrence, a daughter Amy Harbert, her husband Michael and two grandchildren, Julia and Zachary from Chesterfield, VA, a son Jeffrey and his wife Anna of Harrisonburg, VA, and her father, Putnam Phillips Flint of Weston, MA. She is predeceased by her first child, Suzanne Elizabeth, who died in 1971, and by her mother, Dorothy Ann Flint who died in 2002.

Kitty graduated from Weston High School in Weston, MA in 1963 and from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH in 1967. She was awarded a scholarship in the Chemistry Department at B-W and graduated with a degree in Chemistry and taught high school general science in Virginia Beach, VA while her husband was in the US Navy.

The young family lived in Georgia and South Carolina for several years before moving to Bel Air, MD due to a job promotion. In 1984 Kitty and her husband started Waterchem, an industrial water treatment company that manufactures specialty chemicals used for scale and corrosion control in heating and cooling systems. Kitty was a key employee in the business, and although a chemist by education, she went back to college, took accounting courses, and managed the accounting and administration of the company for 23 years before retiring in January 2007.

Kitty was raised from childhood in the Episcopal Church and was very active with her family in The Church of the Holy Trinity in Churchville, MD. She served in many ways throughout the years including as a licensed lay reader beginning in the early 1980’s and as Senior Warden for 5 years beginning in 1999. During her tenure as Senior Warden, she presided over the complete renovation and restoration of the historic church building which was originally built in 1867. Working with fellow church member and well known historic architect James T. Wollon, Kitty and her committee restored the building to its original magnificence.

In addition to her immediate family listed above, Kitty is survived by a brother, Leverett Flint of Winchester, MA, and two sisters, Margaret H. Flint of Marblehead, MA, and Rebecca C. Friedman of Springfield, MA and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to The Lymphoma Foundation at www.lymphoma.org.
