Kathy "Nanna" Mcdowell

February 8, 1947 — April 14, 2020

Julia Katherine "Nana" McDowell, age 73, of Churchville, Maryland passed away on April 14, 2020 at her home. Born in Mobile, Alabama, she was the daughter of Julius Vernon and Stella Faye (Deel) Stewart and wife of the late Francis Lee McDowell to whom she was married for 47 years. She followed the path of God and was a lifelong member at Edgewood Assembly of God where she loved to sing songs of praise to the Lord. Her second love was being with her family. She not only raised five of her own children but she was instrumental in the rearing of many other children. Some that were related and some that were just friends of her own children that needed encouragement and advice. It was truly important to her life for her children and others to follow the Lord. It was nothing out of the ordinary for Kathy to put the needs of others in front of her own needs. She enjoyed painting, quilting, gardening, and sewing and was very crafty. Kathy was an amazing artist who also had a brilliant mind. On top of all of these endearing traits she gave 30 years of her life working in the oncology field where she touched many people's lives during some of the worst of times for them.

Kathy is survived by her three daughters, Stella Gullion and her husband, Mike, Michelle McDowell and her husband, Harry Tibbs, and Alisha McDowell; two sons, Vernon McDowell and his wife, Dawn and Chris McDowell and his wife, Shelly; Adopted children Bryan Ahmed his wife Debbie, Karen Wilmoth Barnwell, and Allen Dunston; four sisters, Jean Kriess, Judy Watford, Renee Stewart, and Denise Greco; seventeen grandchildren, Stephanie McDowell, Michael Gullion his wife Juliana, Jamie Gullion, Troy McDowell his wife Nathalie, Harry Tibbs, Kayla Tibbs, Christian McDowell, Michael Beal, Shane McDowell, Brett McDowell, Zachary McDowell, Elijah McDowell, Austin Simons, Landon Stallard, Alesia Lupin, Austin Ahmed, and Alex Ahmed ; five great grandchildren, Tanner and Lawson Gullion, Bella McDowell, Lyla Tibbs, and Amira Tibbs, Sophie Tibbs; and expected great grandchild, Anna Sophia McDowell.

A Memorial Service will be planned at a later date to be determined.
