Joseph George Blume

Joseph George Blume, age 91, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2022.

Joseph was born February 5,1931 in Baltimore, Maryland to George and Mary Blume. 

He attended Patterson High School in Baltimore under their College Prep Program and continued his education at Johns Hopkins University studying in the field of Mechanical Engineering. He had a distinguished career with Bethlehem Steel Ship Building Division and after retirement was recruited to work for Martin Marietta in development of their Vertical Launch Aircraft Division. 

Dad enjoyed attending the Colts and Ravens football games in Baltimore, skiing at the Deep Creek Lake family vacation home, and golfing as a long-standing member of the Sparrows Point Country Club, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was always a helping hand and guiding light to everyone. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Agnes R. Blume, his two sisters Anne Bye, Dolores Ritterpusch, brother-in-law, Myrell “Okie” Ritterpusch and sister-in-law Pat Blume. He is also survived by his three children: Joseph Blume Jr. and wife Caroline, Valerie Dixon and husband Mike, and Kimberly Wills and husband Bruce. He is also a loving grandfather to his grandchildren: Jennifer, Christopher, Meghan, Andrew, Matthew, Patrick, Danielle, Rebecca, Ellen, Brad, Andrew, and his 14 beautiful great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his loving brother, George Blume and his brother-in-law, Stanley Bye. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph’s name to his favorite small charities: Wounded Warriors, American Cancer Association or American Heart Association.
