John R. Phillips

John R. Phillips, age 76, of Edgewood, MD passed away on December 30, 2018 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Lewisburg, West VA, he was the son of the late Perry and Bertha (Quick) Simms and husband of 48 years to Opal Elizabeth Phillips of Edgewood. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he worked as a diesel mechanic with the MTA until he retired in 2018 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and helping people. He was a mentor to many and a gentle, patient and kind hearted soul.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Phillips is survived by two sons, Glenn Phillips (and partner Rosemary Davis) of Darlington and Rick Simms of Ohio; sister, Sharon Adams of Conowingo and 5 grandchildren.
