John "Jack" Edward Farmer

August 1, 1931 — September 14, 2021

John Edward Farmer, known as “Jack” was born August 1, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan. He went Home to His Precious Jesus, leaving peacefully from his home in the comfort of his beloved wife Nora and daughter Elaine, in the early morning hours of September 14, 2021. He was the son of John Farmer of London Ontario, Canada, and Mattie Bonnell of Bell, Florida. In 1932 the family moved to Miami, Florida. He attended public schools in Miami and became a Christian at the age of 19. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Bel Air Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mary Elnora Williams Farmer. Other survivors include their son, Robert of Ocean Pines, MD, Edy Neubauer, of Bel Air, Elaine Myers of Bel air, and Ruth and Mark Costanza of Jarrettsville. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Jeffrey Farmer, Rebecca Cicalo, Melissa Parlett, Tiffany Bortz, Rachel Carpenter, Andrew Grogan, Amanda Berry, and Emmalee Neubauer; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Caleb, Isabella, and Liam Smith, Madison Engle and Regan and Mason Parlett, Lincoln and Makenna Bortz, Darcy Grogan, and Farrah, Faye, Nesta and Conway Berry.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Ray and Albert, and sister Gloria Hughes, his daughter-in-law Cathy Farmer, his son-in-law Floyd Myers, and a grandson, Nicholas Costanza.

He attended Trevecca Nazarene University where he met his wife Mary (known as Nora). He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Jacksonville University of Florida, earned a Master’s degree in Education from Towson State University, and did graduate work at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins Universities. He was deployed to Korea in the US Army and was in the Maryland Air National Guard. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign wars and the American Legion. The first twenty years of his working career he was in credit management at Dun & Bradstreet, Standard Oil and General Motors. In 1971 he entered into the field of education first in Harford County, and then with the State of Maryland where he retired in 1988.
