John F. Akins, Jr.

August 12, 1958 — May 29, 2022

John Akins Jr., also known as Junior, gained his wings on May 29, 2022.  He was the son of the late John Akins Sr. and Everhart Akins he was born on August 12, 1958 in Havre de Grace, MD.  Junior was educated in the Bel Air High School system. He was the youngest of four children, following after three sisters.  Dizzy (Nora) the mother figure whom Junior confided in to gain his parents trust, Penny (Ellene)  would enjoy spending time with her brother by dressing him up replicating a doll baby and Toni, the mischievous sister who would partner with her brother to conspire to sneak out the house.

At an early age he joined Tabernacle United Methodist Church where he was baptized and gave his life over to Christ.

After graduating from school John married his high school sweetheart Sharmetta Jackson.  As a result of this marriage the couple had one daughter, Lakeisha Akins. John was employed under the family-owned business Fallston Exterminating where he and his father became a dynamic duo, known for servicing businesses and residence throughout Harford County.

In order to provide for his family Junior decided to continue working for the family business during the day and work the mid-shift at Amtrak for over 16 years. While working with Amtrak John became a train dispatcher where he eventually moved on to become supervisor of dispatchers.

Later in life John had two additional beautiful children, son Peter John Leonce Akins (PJ) and daughter Tempest Akins.

In his spare time Junior was known for fixing cars and cooking.  He took pride in his appearance and had a certain swag about him.  He always remained fresh and clean.  People knew him as being family oriented and a kind gentle soul.
