Joan Reid Hyde

On August 17, 2021, after 91 years, Joan Reid Hyde left this life to join loved ones in the next. She was born January 25, 1930 in Washington, DC, the only child of the late James Allison and Artie Susann (Duffin) Reid.

Joan was educated in the Washington, DC Public Schools, graduating from Central High School, then attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where she studied Spanish.

Joan married the late Neill Dumont, Jr., with three children resulting; Neill III, James (Jim) and Artie. She and Neill, Jr. divorced. In 1970, she married the late Laron Deloss Hyde.

Joan held various secretarial/administrative jobs with the FBI, an insurance office, the Department of the Navy and Northern Virginia Community College. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and often did work in the Washington, DC Temple. Joan was a skilled gardener, excellent cook, fashionable dresser, avid genealogist, as well as an enthusiastic community theater actress. She once played Olivia in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. She enjoyed playing piano for church and family gatherings.

Joan will be remembered by her children, Neill III, Jim and Artie. Her grandchildren, Melanie Berkabile, Christine York, Jessica Dumont, Sarah Dumont, James Dumont, Samuel Dumont, Julia Dumont Grrant, Amanda Lipscomb, Joan Smallwood, Marion Maynor and Kate Smallwood. Her great-grandchildren, Brandon, Bella, DJ, Kallie, River, Ripley, Maren, Rexford, Reid, Jaivian, Imeira, Da’sheyll, Jakai, Olivia, Jamari, Demi and Aaliyah. She leaves a host of cousins, family and friends as well as many dear step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren from her marriage to Laron.
