Jeffrey Caudell Ayers

December 11, 1950 — January 25, 2021

Jeffrey Caudell Ayers, age 70, of Pylesville, Maryland passed away on January 25, 2021 at his home. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late William Caudell and Mary Lucille (Ramsey) Ayers and husband of Kathryn Margaret Gay Ayers. He was a veteran of the Maryland National Guard and a member of the Kenwood High School Athletics Hall of Fame. He was an avid Ravens and Orioles fan, holding season tickets to the Ravens games. He coached soccer, basketball and baseball for the North Harford area and he participated yearly in the Delta Farmers Market, selling eggs. Jeff and Kathy called their home "Rocky Acres Mini Farm" where they cared for miniature donkeys, alpacas, pigs, miniature cows, peacocks, guineas, chickens, goats, a pony, and ducks.

He grew up in the Middlesex area and graduated from Kenwood High School in 1968. He attended Towson University and graduated with a degree in early childhood education. He taught Kindergarten and First Grade at Magnolia Elementary School, before transferring to Norrisville Elementary School where he taught First Grade. While teaching, Jeff earned his Master’s in Administration from Johns Hopkins University, and became Director of Facilities for the Harford County Public Schools. While he retired as an administrator, his true passion was teaching, and he loved the children that he taught. In his retirement, one of his biggest thrills was reconnecting with many of his former students via Facebook.

Jeff relished his title of “Gramps,” visiting Iowa, providing wagon rides and playing lifeguard in the pool were some of the special times he shared with his four grandsons. His hobbies included growing vegetables and pruning his roses, as seen in many of his various posts. Family vacations have always included visiting relatives in Georgia and sitting on the beach in Ocean City. His love for his family, his nicknames for others, fun personality and sports commentaries will surly be missed.

In addition to his wife, Jeff is survived by his daughter, Meghan (Nathan) Gruver; son, Jacob (Christina) Ayers; brother, Jerry (Ellen) Ayers; sister, Joy Shepard; four grandchildren, Gavin, Max, and Jack Ayers, and Anson Gruver; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Contributions may be made to Kenwood High School Hall of Fame, 2913 Salford Drive, Abingdon, MD 21009 or Norrisville Elementary School, if desired.

Jeff will be buried at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, in Pylesville Maryland. All are welcome to join us at the burial service.
