Jean Hightower

Jean Hightower, age 85, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on October 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born on March 11, 1937 in Roanoke, Virginia, to William I. and Ruby (Carr) Leslie. She graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore. She worked for the Baltimore Sun during high school and began working for the Bendix Corporation after graduation. She met and married the love of her life, James P. Hightower, in 1957. They were married for 49 years, until his death in 2006. Together they raised four children. She was a wonderful mother and the rock of the family. 

She is survived by two sons, Michael Hightower (Kim) and Keith Hightower (Denise), and daughter Jennifer Shelleman (Ed). She was preceded in death by her son Richard Hightower. Jean was blessed with nine grandchildren, Candice, Richard, Kylie, Emily, Ryan, Madison, Zachary, Allie, and Matthew, and two great grandchildren, Veronica and Grace. She is also survived by her two sisters, Jerry Musch and Judy Mogensen, and many loving friends.

In addition to her parents, husband, and son she was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen Leslie.

After her youngest was in school she re-entered the workplace. Jean began a career working for Sears Roebuck. She loved her job as a manager and worked for the company for 19 years. She was a long-time member of the Bel Air United Methodist Church. After being widowed she became active with the ‘Moving On’ support group and started many wonderful years of friendship and travel. Jean loved playing cards, especially bridge, and enjoyed adventures traveling worldwide.
