James H. Butler

July 23, 1930 — January 21, 2015

James H. Butler was born in Braggs, Oklahoma July 23, 1930 the son of Roger Arthur Butler and Alpha Mary Cowan Butler Duffer. He went to school in Webber Falls, Oklahoma and as a child, he and his family worked in the fields in Arizona picking cotton, fruit, radishes and cutting spinach. At 18 years of age, he joined the Navy where he completed basic training in San Diego and then to Annapolis, MD for his first assignment. When in Baltimore, he met and married Charlotte M. Mitchell in 1949. They had three children; Richard James, Donna Jean and William Herbert. After two years in the Navy, he came to Maryland and worked at Bethlehem Steel in the shipyard dry-dock. He went back in the Navy for five years during the Korean Conflict and returned to Bethlehem Steel where he worked for 11 more years. For a short while he worked at Westinghouse and several years at Food Lion. He moved to Florida and worked at the Tropicana Orange Juice plant, Westinghouse at Pompano Beach and at a garage door and pest control company. Upon his return to Baltimore he worked at Westinghouse until retiring from there in 1993. He moved to Georgia where he started selling AMSOIL and came back to Baltimore when his wife's mother became sick. He stayed with AMSOIL after moving to Harford County, went back to Georgia for one year, and then his final move to Harford County where he settled in Edgewood. He loved to take his family and wife on car trips to Oregon, Oklahoma and the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Jim was a member of Toastmaster's International. While at Westinghouse he began writing poetry and had two books copyrighted and published. He delighted in reciting to any and all as everyone loved his works. He was a 30 year member of Glen Burnie Lodge #213 AF&AM Masonic Temple. After moving to Edgewood, he and Charlotte became regulars at McDonalds for the breakfast crowd. Charlotte died August 3, 2013 and he continued to visit McDonalds where he met Joyce Wells. They became best friends and began having breakfast with the Burger King crowd and then were married on August 18, 2014.

He is survived by his loving wife Joyce; his three children, Richard of Millersville, Donna of Florida and Bill of North Carolina; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
