Iola "Tad" Richardson

October 16, 1926 — September 20, 2019

Iola "Tad" Richardson, age 92, of Aberdeen, MD, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 20, 2019 at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, MD. She was surrounded by her loving family as she was reunited with the love of her life, the late Rev. Amos C. Richardson. Born October 16, 1926 in Nathan's Creek, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Laura "Chessie" (Sheets) Woodie.

After moving to MD in 1942 she was employed at Edgewood Arsenal and later at the Bata Shoe Company. She met her future husband at the Boyd and Fulford Drug Store in Bel Air, MD. They were wed January 16, 1947 and were married for 68 years.

She was loving and nurturing by nature and treated everyone with love and affection. By example, she instilled those traits in her children. After the birth of their first child she became a full time homemaker. She loved to decorate her home and kept it spotless. She was a phenomenal cook and entertained almost every weekend. One of her many talents was sewing and she loved to make beautiful dresses for her girls. She also enjoyed spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed traveling and her favorite family game was Aggravation.

She dedicated her life to the Lord as a young woman and faithfully served in the church. She loved teaching Sunday School and adored her students. She sang in the choir and taught a Vacation Bible School class each summer.

Mrs. Richardson is survived by a son, Ronnie P. Richardson of Aberdeen; daughters, Cathey S. Alejo (Larry) of Bel Air; Peggy A. Cortright (Richard) of Locke, NY; Karen E. Privett (Pinkie) of Havre de Grace; sisters, Mary Severt, Nancy Black and Lil Neaves (John) of West Jefferson, NC.

She was blessed with four grandchildren, Kimberly A. Bender (Randy, Jr.) of Baltimore, MD, Richard L. Cortright II (Nicole) of Spring, TX, Adam C. Cortright of Genoa, NY and Jason A. Cortright of Enfield, NY; and seven great grandchildren, Randy, III and April Bender, Caedmon, Edmund and Alan Cortright, Madison Cortright, and Amos Cortright.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Amos C. Richardson, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Pallbearers will be her three grandsons, great grandson, grandson-in-law Gilbert R. Bender Jr. and Aaron Lewis.
