Hugh Philip Standish

January 18, 1944 — December 13, 2022

Hugh Philip Standish, age 78, of Fallston, Maryland passed away on December 13, 2022 with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Merrie (Stancill); sister, Anne; sons, Christopher and his fiancé Marianne, Jason and his wife Lisa; granddaughters, Nicole, Courtney, Cameron, Catherine, and Abigail; great-granddaughter, Braedyn; as well as many beloved brothers and sisters in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Born in Canandaigua, New York, he was the son of the late Philip and Ruth (Boeheim) Standish. An avid Boy Scout and Sea Scout, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. A proud veteran, Hugh served as an NCO in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict training soldiers at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 39. A Freemason, Hugh was a member of Mt. Ararat Lodge No. 44, a 32° Scottish Rite Mason, Past Grand Tall Cedar of Har-Ce Forest - Tall Cedar’s of Lebanon, and a member of National Sojourners.

Hugh’s paramount love was his family. Although work often required him to spend much time away from home, he made time to assist his son’s Boy Scout and 4H groups, rec lacrosse teams, and helped initiate a booster club for the high school marching band. His greatest pleasures were traveling with his wife, and spending time with his sons, granddaughters, great granddaughter, and other family and friends whenever possible. He also enjoyed sailing and woodworking.

Committed to the local community, he was an early organizer and president of Holy Family House (now Harford Family House); which provides emergency and transitional housing to those at need so they can remain together as a family. He was also the chairman of the Masonic Angel Fund, which provides for educational and personal needs of local children.

The family will be hosting a memorial service on Saturday, April 29th, 2023 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (2929 Level Rd. Churchville, MD 21028). Service at 11am with reception to follow in the parish hall.
