Holly J. Affleck

January 28, 1962 — December 31, 2003

HOLLY JEAN AFFLECK, of Birmingham, Alabama, died of cancer on December 31, 2003. She was 41.
Born in Havre de Grace, Maryland, she was the daughter of Robert and Fern Duncan and sister of Cathy Harrison.

Holly and young son, Jason Greenwell, united with Karl Affleck on June 18, 1988. Karl and Jason were always the center of Holly' life and after living in Forest Hill for eight years, the family moved to Birmingham where they built their second family of close friends and co-workers. Holly worked at Caremark as a legal assistant until 2002 when she was diagnosed with cancer.

Those who knew Holly only by her charismatic smile would often mistake her as a quiet person. To the contrary, Holly had a gift that few are fortunate enough to possess- the gift of truly being able to listen to others. That remarkable ability allowed her to hear instead of speak and then provide her support to those who entered her life. Holly' warmth could be felt by all who encountered her, from stranger to co-worker.

Despite their fierce battle with cancer, Holly and Karl's endless commitment to each other only grew stronger. When outsiders said that the battle was over, Holly and Karl continued to have faith in each other. The couple became the definition of "soul mates"- a connection that will not end with her passing.

In addition to her husband and son, Holly is survived by her parents; sister, Cathy and brother-in-law, Jerry with sons Gavin and Joshua; sister-in-law Elizabeth Carven and husband Frank; brother-in-law Michael Affleck and fiancé, Shannon Christley; sister-in-law Susan Affleck Bauer and husband Mark and nephew Cole; sister-in-law Annalisa Czeczulin and husband John, along with nephews John, Jeremy, and Alex; and sister-in-law Christine Basham, husband Daniel and niece Halaina.

In Holly's memory donations may be made to Hunter Street Baptist Church, 2600 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama, 35244.
