Helen Raab Woodward

Helen Raab Woodward, 86, of Forest Hill, formerly of Bel Air, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2022 at Forest Hill Heights, Forest Hill, MD. Born in Glen Arm, MD, Helen was the tenth of eleven children of the late John Peter and Lula Christ Raab and wife of 61 years to the late Richard (Dick) Woodward. Born and raised on a farm in Glen Arm, the family later moved to farms in Baldwin, and then Bel Air. Helen attended Fork Elementary School, Carroll Manor Jr. High School, and graduated from Towson High School in 1954. Married in 1955, she and Dick lived in Warrenton, VA, while he was in the Army Security Agency stationed at Vint Hill Farms, VA. After his discharge in 1956, they moved to Bel Air. Helen was a member of St. Ignatius and St. Margaret Catholic Church and was a Life Member of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, having served as President and Secretary during her 52 years of membership. She also served as Secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Harford County Vol. Fire & EMS Association. She was a former Secretary for the Special Supervisors of the Harford County Board of Education; and later was Secretary for Woodward Associates, Inc., until her retirement. She was a member and Secretary of Harford Artists' Association and was a former member of the Geneva Farm Ladies Golf League. She enjoyed cake decorating, playing her autoharp, bluegrass music, painting, sailing, and traveling in their motorhome.


Helen is survived by her children, Rick Woodward of Bel Air, Cindy W. Webb of Rocky Top, TN and Christy W. Holden of Forest Hill; grandchildren, Greg, Nick & Andrea Woodward, Rachel Webb Keon, Brian and John Holden. She is also survived by siblings James Raab of Bel Air, Louise Laudenklos of Perry Hall and Edwin Raab of Bradshaw; and 42 nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her siblings, Mildred Burton, Angela Kahl, Doris Koegel, Martha Raab, Alice Comes, Peter Raab and Thomas Raab.


Pallbearers will be W. Brian Holden, Rick Woodward, Greg Woodward, Nick Woodward, C. Brian Holden and A. John Holden


A luncheon will follow the interment at Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, 109 S. Hickory Avenue, Bel Air, MD 21014.
