Helen Elizabeth Lanchak

May 1, 1936 — December 13, 2022

Helen Elizabeth “Beth” Lanchak passed on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 86 years of age, at Upper Chesapeake Hospital due to complications from a stroke.

Beth was born May 1, 1936 in Baltimore, MD to the late David W. and Helen F. Hines. She was the oldest of four children; two preceded her in death, Pauline Hines and Anne Stower. Beth is survived by her younger brother, David W. Hines Jr. The family lived in Pimlico and Gordonsville, VA for a decade, but they eventually ended up back in Charm City. This is where Beth attended St. Mildred’s Academy ’53, and she caught the eye of a young man who was working at a snowball stand. Beth is survived by her husband of 65 years, William “Bill” Lanchak. They dated while she attended Mercy School of Nursing, and they were married soon after she graduated. Beth started work at Mercy Hospital, while Bill served time in the United States Navy. She spent the next 42 years as a labor and delivery nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which she helped to start.

Beth took several years off to enjoy and raise her children, Gregory Lanchak, David Lanchak and Kathryn Lanchak Feilinger. The family initially lived in Carney, where she finally got her driver’s license, and then settled in Jarrettsville. Beth also enjoyed being a grandmother and is survived by 7 grandchildren: Nicholas, Seth, Kyla, Jared, and Katy Lanchak and Sarah and Emily Feilinger. She is survived by 3 great grandchildren: Madison, Mason and Colt Lanchak.

Beth bravely fought cancer three times and displayed tremendous strength and a passion for life. She was proud to be a Master Gardener and would rescue any needy plant or flower. Beth was never far from her crochet hook, yarn or knitting needles. Her afghans, sweaters, wool hats, socks and Christmas stockings are cherished by anyone that was blessed to receive one. She was a genealogy detective for over 20 years and was proud of her over 2000 entries. Beth loved being a member of the Jarrettsville homemakers, Red Hat Society and attending tea parties. She probably already has a date set to have tea with the Queen.

Most importantly, Beth knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She is at peace now with her Lord in heaven and would want those who look back at her life to be reminded of His love. Beth will always be remembered as someone who loved God and showed His love to those around her.
