Harold Leo Stewart

August 9, 1920 — July 19, 2022

Harold Stewart, age 101, of Jarrettsville, Maryland passed away on July 19, 2022 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Bangor, Maine, he was the son of Arthur and Sarah “Sadie” (McLeod) Stewart and husband of the late Ruth B. Stewart (Nee Tracy).


Harold is survived by his son, Arthur Stewart; grandchildren, Jason (Stacey) Scarff, Melissa Aponte and Kelly Stewart; and great grandchildren, Cheyanne Aponte, Alexa Scarff, Garrett Scarff and Scott Aponte. 


In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Ann Scarff and 8 siblings. 


Harold had an illustrious military career. He was in the ROTC program at his high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard after graduation. During World War II, he served as a paratrooper. He went to Officer Candidate School to become a commissioned officer. Harold served for 29 years on active duty and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Air Force. After retirement, he worked in civil service for another twenty years.


In his later years, he continued to work small jobs, even teaching bartending at Harford Community College. He loved his home in Homestead Village and spent a lot of time in home improvement projects. He was a very active and social man who loved entertaining. After his wife died and he moved into a condominium, he became the president of the Greenbrier Condo Association.


Harold always strove to take care of his family. He worked very hard his entire life to provide financial and emotional support for his parents, his children, and even his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was well loved and will be missed greatly.
