Gregory William Pappas

October 5, 1965 — February 13, 2021

Gregory William Pappas, age 55, of Abingdon, Maryland passed away on February 13, 2021. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Basil and Linda (Gibbons) Pappas. Greg was a graduate of North Harford High School, Loyola University of Maryland, and University of Baltimore. He recently celebrated 35 years of service with McCormick & Company, Inc.

Greg and his loving wife of 28 years, Nancy (Eberhardt) Pappas, devoted themselves to raising their three wonderful sons. Their family enjoyed outdoor activities, sports, music, family game nights, movie nights, vacations together and multi-family social gatherings. They are members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Bel Air.

Greg had a passion for sports. He played softball, basketball, golf and coached youth sports. He relished family ski trips, bike rides with Nancy, fishing and evening kayaking with the family dog on the Bush River. He was a Baltimore sports fan through and through – avidly supporting the Orioles and the Ravens all while collecting memorabilia and autographs. Somehow he always seemed to find time for college basketball, hockey and Triple Crown. Greg proudly participated in Boy Scouting with his sons, and was grateful to retreat to camping mode as a family last summer when activities were limited due to the COVID19 pandemic.

Greg played guitar and delighted in sharing his love of music. It was always a highlight for Greg when he got to attend a concert- whether with Nancy, his sons or many friends. He had an inspired collection of music and keen ability to set up just the right playlist for an event, while he could have endless discussions on the depth of artists that he enjoyed so much.

Greg was a thoughtful friend who made an effort to keep in touch and maintain connections. A friend of Greg’s is a friend of yours. He was happy to introduce friends from one circle to friends from another circle whether it was school, work, neighborhoods, or any other activities. He enriched the lives of people he knew by spending time with them and listening well. He earned the respect and admiration of colleagues from his career at McCormick, where he earned a position as an Information Technology Program Manager.

In addition to his parents and his wife; Greg is survived by sons, William G. Pappas, Nicholas J. Pappas, and Christopher R. Pappas; two brothers, Michael (Lauren) Pappas and Andrew (Katie) Pappas; his mother-in-law, Sheila; and many valued in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
