George Scott Holmes

September 21, 1925 — September 7, 2010

George Scott Holmes, age 84, of Bel Air, MD, died on September 7, 2010 at Lorien Riverside in Belcamp, MD. Born in the castle town of Prudhoe in Northumberland England, he was the son of the late George and Christiana Stafford Holmes. He grew up in Wallsend-On-Tyne and graduated from secondary school prior to serving in the Royal Navy during WWII, where he was on a British Destroyer, and participated in anti-submarine warfare tactics in the Atlantic. After WWII, in 1946, he married Anne "Nancy" Wafer. He then worked for Swan Hunter Shipbuilders in England, immigrating in 1951, to the USA with two young daughters and where later, had a son. He worked with Robert Gair Company, Continental Can Company, and then at Federal Paper Board, after which, he retired to Harford County in 1987. He held several patents for Jak-et-Pac, which held together bottled and canned beverages. He enjoyed playing instruments, of which many, he played by ear.

Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Anne "Nancy" Holmes of Bel Air, MD; son, Michael G. Holmes and wife, Jan, of Florida, NY; daughter, Yvonne Holmes Guenthner and husband, Fred, of Bel air, MD; sisters, Lilly Engle and Christiana Grey, both of England; 9 grandchildren, Michael Citro, Victoria Winstel, David Citro, Christa Ward, Sondra Horsky, Beth Fowlie, Colin Holmes, Brandon Holmes, and Ryan Holmes; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Shirley Klink.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
