Ellen White

Ellen White, age 83, of Forest Hill, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on November 30, 2022. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Harry and Bea (Boyd) Brown and wife of the late Julian A. White, Jr.

Ellen was raised in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and was a lifelong Tarheels fan. She and Julian were happily married for 40 years. Ellen was known for her big smile, southern accent, and sense of style, fashion, and humor. She was a loving mother to Joan and her granddaughter, Elena, was the “apple of her eye.” She loved people, life and bringing out the positive in everyone she met.

Ellen worked in education, first as a teacher in Virginia Beach and then at Homestead Elementary School in Harford County for over 35 years. She also helped to develop the Gifted & Talented Program in the County. Upon retirement, she worked with Harford Community College as a GED instructor. She was also a member of the professional education association Delta Kappa Gamma. Outside of school, she enjoyed bridge, knitting, and book club.

Ellen is survived by her daughter, Joan Evelyn White Fernandez and husband, Peter; granddaughter, Elena Fernandez; and twin sister, Evelyn Britt of Tarboro, NC.
