Elizabeth Smelas Simpson

Elizabeth Smelas Simpson, age 59, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on December 20, 2022 surrounded by her family. Born in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Marianne Smelas and the late William Smelas. Elizabeth graduated from Palmerton High School in 1981, continued her education at Widener University (‘85) with a BS in Nursing, followed by graduating from University of Pennsylvania (‘90) with a MS in Nursing. She was a Nurse Practitioner for many years with a focus on women's health. Later in life, Elizabeth changed career paths and obtained a MS in theology from Georgian Court University. She was called to ministry within the Catholic Church, with a passion for adult faith education, and was an active member both at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Freehold NJ, as well as St. Margaret Church in Bel Air, MD.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband Vincent Simpson; son, Dr. Joseph Simpson; daughter, Dr. Victoria Simpson; and brothers, Thomas (Dianne) Smelas and Daniel (Wendy) Smelas.

Inurnment will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church’s cemetery in Freehold, NJ at a later date.
