Edward C. ''Ned'' Wilson Iii

October 7, 1946 — June 17, 2011

Edward C. "Ned" Wilson III, age 64, of Darlington, MD, died on June 17, 2011 at Gilchrist Center @GBMC in Towson, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Edward Charles Wilson Jr. and Ann Halliday Wilson. A 1964 graduate of McDonogh School, he later attended Dickinson College where he graduated in 1968. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army and entered basic training in early fall of 1968. He trained at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX in preventive medicine, and served at Phu Bai in Vietnam. An information technology specialist, he retired in 2005 from the federal government where he had been employed for over 30 years working in D.C., Elkton, and APG.

Ned grew up in Darlington and built a house on his parent's farm where he raised his family. He loved swimming in the ocean where he would get out past the breaking waves and then swim two blocks down and back. Because he could swim distances, he also loved Deer Creek saying that cold water was not a problem and was very refreshing. He also walked and jogged for exercise in any kind of weather and was known at APG for his lunchtime walks around the loop at the Officers' Club. He enjoyed playing tennis after his retirement and was the Co-Chair of the Churchville Tennis Program and he also represented Maryland Life Magazine at area gatherings. For 10 years he led the Churchville Cub Scout Pack #235 as their Cubmaster; sang barbershop with the Bay Country Gentlemen where he was the treasurer; sang with the Bel Air Community Chorus; and also in the choir at St. Joan of Arc Church where he was a member.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Judith Bogdan Wilson of Darlington, MD; sons, Andrew Bogdan Wilson of Washington, DC and Nathaniel Halliday Wilson and his wife, Kimberly Lovel Wilson, of Arlington, VA, sisters, Ann "Dickie" Wilson and husband, Monk Larson, of Delmar, NY and Carolyn Wilson Keenan of Colorado Springs, CO; and mother-in-law, Kay Bogdan of Bel Air, MD.
