Dusty Smith

March 18, 1941 — March 15, 2019

Dusty Smith, age 77, of Young, Arizona passed away on March 15, 2019 at his sister and brother-in law’s residence Roscrea, in Darlington, Maryland. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, he was the son of the late Donald Lee and Laura Martha (Garrettson) Smith.

Survivors include two sons, Dustin Patrick Smith and Rick Elina-Smith; three sisters, Fern Smith Brown of Darlington, Laura Lee Knight of Havre de Grace and K. Sandra Dawson of Bel Air, all of Maryland. Dusty leaves behind one brother-in-law, Clifford Brown of Darlington and loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Dusty had beloved granddaughters Hailey and Alyssa, and a grandson, Peter. He also had a step-daughter Kathi Martens and two step-granddaughters, Jessica and Erica.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Marie Smith.

Dusty left his home in Maryland to go west and find the life he wanted. He had an illustrious career as a rodeo rider and brahma bull rider. Eventually, he went to college and became a surveyor and engineer.

Dusty was widely known for his kindness to others. His Thanksgiving dinners were legendary in the area as he prepared those meals from a small travel home oven and fed anyone who came by, outside in the shade of juniper trees in his yard. When the local Mormon Church learned he was doing this all on his own, they began to send turkeys and hams (uncooked) to him to help feed the many people who had nowhere else to go on Thanksgiving Day.

Dusty loved to hunt, fish and camp with granddaughters, son and friends.

Our beloved Dusty will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
