Doris Ann Ranneberger

August 27, 1919 — February 19, 2015

Doris Ann Wagner Ranneberger, 95, a long-time resident of Bel Air, died peacefully in her sleep February 19 with her son George, his wife Mary and granddaughter Megan at her side. She had been a resident at Glen Meadows Retirement Community for the last 8 years of her life.

She was born in 1919 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was predeceased by her parents, George H. Wagner and Vivian Sims Wagner and two older sisters, Vivian and Grace.

She is a 1937 graduate of Forest Park High School in Baltimore.

She was preceded in death by her spouse of 56 years, Harry LeRoy "Ranny" Ranneberger. After raising 5 children together, they dedicated many hours in various capacities to both Emmanuel Episcopal Church and Christ Church. Their favorite volunteer event of the year was the annual fall Apple Festival at Christ Church. After Ranny's retirement from Legg Mason they traveled as often as their health and schedules would allow.

At 80 she married the Rev. John R. Cooper, long time friend and retired rector of St. Alban's Anglican Church in Wilna. This marriage brought Jack's two adult children, Marcella and Phil back into the family fold which was a blessing to Doris as she had known them both as small children when their father was Rector at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She and Jack enjoyed three brief but happy years together.

Survivors include her 3 daughters Gail (David) Richmond of Alexandria, Virginia, Nancy (James) Henderson of Riverside, California, Joy Mayfield (John Pigg), of Goodlettsville, Tennessee and 2 sons Blair (Susan) Ranneberger of Willards, Maryland, and George (Mary) Ranneberger of Bel Air, Maryland. Her 11 grandchildren brought great joy to her life. They are: Brian Richmond (Lara), Annelies Richmond (Stuart Gray), Amanda Ginn (Michael), Megan Henderson, James Henderson, III, Stacey Woodard (Sean), Sean Ranneberger, Anderson Mayfield, Spencer Mayfield, Ben Ranneberger (Lyndsay) and Seth Ranneberger (Courtney). She was the great-grandmother of 7. Survivors also include her sister-in-law, Dorty Ranneberger, 3 nieces and 1 nephew..

She was a homemaker who loved having a big family. Her passions included music and nature. She enjoyed a part-time career as a piano teacher in her home for many years. She also loved being out in nature whether tending her flowerbeds around her home or out hiking her favorite trails. She hiked well into her 80's.

She is to be remembered for her commitment to her community and her two church homes, Emmanuel Episcopal and Christ Church Rock Spring. She was in the choir and served on the Altar Guild of both churches. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, The American Heart Association, and Liriodendron Mansion and was a Lioness in the Bel Air Lions Club for 50 years.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Glen Meadows Retirement Community for the rich life they afforded Doris in the last 8 years of her life. The family also wishes to thank Gilchrist Hospice Care for their support in her final days.

Memorial gifts may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 303 N. Main Street, Bel Air, Md. 21014.
