Derrick Lloyd

Derrick Lloyd, age 45, of Joppa, MD, passed away on December 22, 2014 at Lorien Riverside in Belcamp, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Steven Lloyd and Janice Carman Prather. A 1988 graduate of Joppatowne High School, he worked 12 years for the federal government at Kaseman International where he was an Operations Specialist. During his time with Joppa Magnolia Fire Department, 1987-Present, he served in many officer positions which included Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief and was a top ten responder for a total of 17 years. He was certified in SCBA and served on several committees. He also received numerous awards, including Firefighter of the Year, and was a member of the Harford-Cecil Volunteer Fireman's Hall of Fame and the Maryland State Fireman's Association. He taught Fire and Rescue at University of Maryland and had traveled the world teaching about Weapons of Mass Destruction. He also helped prepare Greece for the 2004 Olympiad. An avid Ravens fan, he enjoyed music in general but especially Jimmy Buffett.

Mr. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 10 years, Michelle S. (Hiteshew) Lloyd; sons, Christopher and Nicholas Lloyd both of Edgewood; stepfather, Charles Prather of Las Vegas, NV; aunt, Deborah Ruston of Timonium; and father and mother-in-law, William D. Hiteshew Jr. and Deborah L. Hiteshew of Joppa.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
