Daniel S. Diaz

Daniel Scott Diaz, age 60, of Harve de Grace, Maryland, peacefully passed away in the evening on Saturday, November 9, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. Dan was born on March 14, 1959 in Ontario, California, to Aquilino and Sally Diaz; he was the youngest of three sons.

After graduating from Alta Loma High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California in 1978, Dan went on to a distinguished 24-year career in the United States Army proudly serving from July 1978 to May 2002. Highly decorated, Dan won several awards, including the Bronze Star during Operation DESERT STORM, two Meritorious Service Medals, seven Army Commendation Medals, and two Army Achievement Medals. Dan was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Fort Hood, Texas, twice in Germany, and completed one tour of duty in the Republic of Korea.

Immediately from the Army, Dan began his civilian government service with the Communications Electronics Command, at Fort Hood, Texas. Dan did four deployments to Iraq as a civilian. Dan was once again stationed in Korea in 2005, and it was here that Dan met future wife Chong Hwa Hyong. The two were married in 2006. Dan was ultimately stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

Dan’s true passion in life was in being a father and husband. Chong and Dan’s two daughters, were his heart and delight—they were the people he loved the most in life. Dan’s proudest achievement in life was in raising two amazing young women. Dan was a rare combination of someone who had a love for life and a firm understanding of what was important—the simplicity of living and enjoying life with loved ones.

Dan is survived by his devoted wife Chong Hwa Hyong Diaz; two daughters, Christen Jeanette Diaz, and Heather Candace Harris; his two brothers, Ric and Garry Diaz, his sister Kaci Diaz, and a host of nieces and nephews, Rick, Derek, Catherine and Tommy and his grandchildren.
