Dale Maurice Young

Dale Maurice Young, aged 85, of Joppa, Maryland passed away November 29, 2022 at home surrounded by his family and dog Buddy. Born Nov. 7, 1937 in Rushville, Indiana, he was the son of Dale C. Young and Stella Belle(Edwards) Young. His family moved to Denver, Colorado when Dale was seven years old. He graduated from Arvada High School in Arvada, CO where he excelled in football, wrestling, baseball, and especially mathematics. He went on to the University of Colorado in Boulder, graduating in 1963 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Dale and his wife Carolyn moved to Hartford, Connecticut to work at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and then to Joppa, MD where he took a job with Martin Marietta. Dale later took a job with Baltimore City as an Engineer Supervisor at the Back River Treatment Plant where he retired in 2003 after receiving a Key to the City and other accolades. Dale loved all sports and enjoyed tennis with his wife and friends. Despite having multiple sclerosis (MS), he remained active and never let his illness stop him. He was a member of Joppatowne Christian Church where he served as treasurer for many years. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers since 1991 and was a proud veteran of the 157th Field Artillery Regiment of the Colorado Army National Guard.

Survivors include his high-school sweetheart of 66 years Carolyn (Lehl) Young and his grandson Corey J. Young of Joppa, MD and Corey's girlfriend Jena Kohajda. He was preceded in death by his beloved children Dale Eugene Young and daughter Shari Christine Young and his parents. There will be no services as per Dale’s request.
