Chloe Kurtz Bergman

May 30, 1927 — November 19, 2021

Chloe Kurtz Bergman, age 94, of Jarrettsville, Maryland passed away on November 19, 2021 at her home. Born in Cardiff, Maryland, she was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Webster and Ethel Elizabeth/ (Cooper) Webster, and wife of the late M. Gladden Kurtz Jr. and the late Arthur Palmer Bergman Sr. Chloe was a member of the Jarrettsville Fire Company Auxiliary for 76 years and the first member to achieve 50 years of membership. In turn, the 50-year award was named the Chloe Kurtz Bergman Award. She was also a member of the Jarrettsville Homemakers Club, was part of the Madonna AARP Group, and was a former Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Chloe was the oldest member of the United Methodist Women's Group at the Jarrettsville United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School for a period of time and was Treasurer for the Sunday School at one point. Chloe was currently attending Grace Fellowship Church. Chloe was extremely passionate about her flowers and garden. When she could mow her yard and weed her flowers, she was the happiest. She loved her family and her grandchildren. She was one of a kind and had a spirited personality. She was one unique lady. She loved to travel, especially with her late husband Arthur. She and Art traveled all fifty states throughout their adventures.


Chloe is survived by three sons, M. Gladden (Renata) Kurtz, III of Jarrettsville, MD, Benjamin W. Kurtz of Jarrettsville, MD, and John (Lisa) Kurtz of Delta, PA; six grandchildren, William (Tiffany) G. Kurtz, Andrea (Rob J.) Low, Tiffany (Sean) L. Edwards, John E. Kurtz, Jr., Paul M. Kurtz, and Melody L. Kurtz; four great-grandchildren, Nathan M. Hummel, Calista A. Kurtz, Brayden S. Edwards, and Riley E. Edwards; two nieces, Ann Shenning and Debbie Freeland; her dear friend, Tina Cartwright; three stepsons, Arthur P. Bergman, Jr., William A. Bergman, Sr., and Samuel F. Bergman.


In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister, Frances W. Pyle; and stepson, J. Craig Bergman.
