Bobby James Akers Sr.

May 14, 1934 — October 9, 2020

Human life is a collection of stories and Bobby Akers Sr., age 86, of Bel Air, MD. had a lot of stories to tell, some happy and some sad. So, we reflect on a few small portions of those stories. After entering into the gates of Heaven on October 9, 2020, at his daughter's home in Havre de Grace, Md., Bobby began to celebrate his new life.
Bobby J. Akers, Sr. was born in Galax, Va., on May 14, 1934, to Walter Bruce Akers and Condie Catherine Newman-Akers. The oldest of four sons (and with four sisters), Bobby did not have the opportunity for much formal education. At a young age, he was sent to his uncle's farm to help out. There he learned how to do carpentry work as well. As he grew older, his family moved to Bel Air, Md. Bob graduated from Bel Air High School in June 1953. After graduation at the age of 18, Bobby's ambitious attitude became inspired to enlist in the Marine Corps. The military became his life for the next four years, serving our nation during the Cold War in Spain, Italy, Crete, Libya, Cyprus, Sardinia, Greece, Turkey, and many surrounding countries. He then returned to the US and continued to serve his years at Clarksville, Tn. (at the Bird Cage). Bobby then resumed another four years in the Marine Corps as a Drill Instructor, serving at Quantico, Va., (training future Marines, FBI, and Secret Service). During his time in the military, Bob earned 8 medals of honor.
After leaving the military, Bobby married the late Clara Haga-Akers. He became a Pastor for several years in Brooklyn, NY. and served the Lord by teaching and preaching all over the East coast. He loved to study God's Word. He continued to share the Word until his death. After retiring from full-time ministry, Bob used his skills taught to him at a younger age, by becoming a Master Electrician. His skills served him well as he retired from Sewell Plastics/Crown, Cork & Seal as Plant Manager of the Electrical division.
Mr. Akers is survived by his three sons and two daughters: Dezi Akers, Ronnie Akers, Donna Akers-Edwards, Bobby Akers, Jr., and Michele Akers-Williams. He is also survived by three sisters: Francis Graybeal, Geraldine McMillan, and Catherine Edwards.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister: Georgia Louise Akers, and brothers: W. Bill Akers, R. Greg Akers, and Roger Akers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Purple Heart, Vet's division.
Condolences may be left on the guestbook at mccomasfuneralhome.com.
